Frequently Asked Questions
We take each vehicle on its merits and will consider anything. In particular we are buyers of modern classic (cars manufactured from 1980-2004) cars, performance cars, and collector vehicles. We buy non-runners, “barn finds”, vehicles in storage, and more eclectic vehicles such as armoured/protection vehicles, diplomatic cars, limousines.
Yes, we will buy left hand drive cars. In the event the vehicle is on a foreign license/registration, we will still consider an offer for your vehicle. In this instance, we may ask you to demonstrate you have the authority to sell the vehicle and carry out additional checks.
Yes, it is possible to sell a car that is part of a deceased estate even before obtaining a Grant of Probate (or Grant of Letters of Administration, if there is no Will). A car is considered a “chattel,” meaning it can be sold or transferred without waiting for the grant, provided you are acting as the personal representative of the estate. We may ask you to provide certain documentation showing you have the right to sell the vehicle.
We will purchase ex-embassy and diplomatic vehicles. This is a straightforward process which we are able to offer assistance with. The physical number/licence plates will need to be removed and returned to the DVLA. This is because they remain property of the Department of Transport, regardless of what happens to the vehicle. If the vehicle was purchased within the UK under diplomatic privilege, they may only be disposed of with the permission of the FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office). If this applies, we will need a stamped copy of Form 5 – available HERE. You do not need to register the vehicle back on UK plates and we can collect the vehicle.
We will need the vehicles V5 registration document to transfer ownership and remove you as the registered keeper.
If this has been lost then we can assist you with obtaining a duplicate from DVLA. This normally costs £25 using DVLA’s online service and you are normally able to get a replacement within 5 working days.
Yes, on notification of sale, you will receive a rebate from the DVLA for any remaining months of road tax left on the vehicle. If you pay via direct debit, your monthly payments will simply cease.
We are still able to buy your car if it is currently SORNed, and we can still transfer ownership with the DVLA.
Once we have inspected your vehicle and confirmed our offer, we will make payment to your nominated bank account via faster payment. This is normally immediate and you do not need to release the vehicle until funds have been received in full.
If for example the car is owned by a spouse or parent, we will still buy the car but we would need their written consent to do so.
In the event you wish to sell a vehicle owned by a late relative, you do not have to wait until a grant of probate has been issued to transfer ownership (this is because a motor vehicle is treated as a chattel). We just need written consent from you that you have the legal authority to sell/dispose of the vehicle.
No, we do not. The price agreed on inspection is the price you will receive, in full.
No, we can process the V5 electronically on your behalf with DVLA. You will receive an email from DVLA confirming you are no longer the registered keeper.
We can assist with removal of private/cherished number plates with DVLA, there is an £80 fee from DVLA to put the number on retention. You will receive a replacement V5 (bearing the original registration number) within 5 working days if processed online, at which point we can purchase the vehicle.
We don’t use a specific price guide to give a generic value, for example factory specification – a car may have tens of thousands worth of optional extras which a price guide wouldn’t take into account. Nor can it truly take into account vehicle condition or service history. These are all things we look at to build a truer picture of your vehicle’s worth. We do consult price guides such as CAP and Glass’ guide, along with vehicle history checks, but also draw data from many other sources such as service history databases and MOT history.
